Tasting the 2017 très Rosé de Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast

First of all, I have tasted hundreds of Rosé wines.  In fact, I went to a tasting a few months back and tasted over 30, can’t say there was 1 that I liked!  Well I guess you can say I broke my tasting streak, this is a Rosé to go out of you way to acquire a bottle, very elegant!  Superb! This is very special hand-crafted and unique Rosé, elegant, made with Sonoma Chardonnay (98%) adding a kiss of Rutherford Bench Napa Cabernet Sauvignon (2%), and in my opinion far better than the Rosé that herald from southeastern France where some of the best are produced.  I have never tasted anything like this previously.  Small production, grapes fermented and aged from French white oak wood staves from Allier, Nevers and Tronçais Haute Futaie forests, known for their sought after wood, with tighter … [Read more...]

Tasting the 2017 très CHARDONNAY from the Sonoma Coast

To begin, this was one of the most elegant Chardonnays I have tasted, and I had to look at the label to see if it really came from CA. In the future, I will conduct a blind tasting, with a few wine friends, putting the Sill against a $135 Puligny-Montrachet. I am predicting Sill will be hands-down winner at half the price…Stay tuned! This hand-crafted Chardonnay is barrel fermented and aged in mostly French oak (guessing a small amount of new oak, if any, as oak is not dominating the wine as most CA Chardonnays do) ending with some time in steel tanks which provides an elegant freshness to the wine. The terroir for this Chardonnay is perfect, cool wind swept Sonoma Coast Petaluma Gap, with clay like volcanic soils. Great depth of gentle fruit aromas with floral and a mineral character. … [Read more...]
